Okay. We have to talk. Many of you have been more than understanding and patient with me regarding the release of Iniquity, and for that I'm eternally grateful. For the few who are not, the next part of this post is going to be for you. I've been feeling your displeasure with me lately. A few readers have been very vocal about it. It's clear: I'm not living up to expectations as far as the publishing and the release of Iniquity are concerned. Believe me when I tell you that I KNOW that I'm not. I just want to clear up a few misconceptions so that you have the facts regarding my books. I wrote Under Different Stars WHILE I was writing Incendiary (book #4). I finished them at roughly the same time. I have not put Iniquity on hold in order to write Under Different Stars. Some people have expressed their anger with me for publishing Under Different Stars before Iniquity. Writing and publishing are ways that I help to support my family. It would be silly of me to have a book finished and not publish it just because I haven't finished the series that you already love first. And again, it has little to do with the delays to Iniquity. I did put Iniquity on hold for a month and a half to write The Divided. The Divided is a short story that will be included as part of an anthology and was originally due to the publisher in September of 2013. (I've already turned it in, but the deadline has since been extended to the end of January 2014 for the authors who haven't finished theirs yet). I'm not getting paid for this short story. I did it to benefit an organization that I believe in. All proceeds will go to that organization. The Divided should release this spring/summer. (I have no control over when it gets published, but I'll let you know when it comes out, just in case you're interested.) So, Under Different Stars didn't hold up Iniquity, but The Divided did for a bit. The real reason I haven't published Iniquity yet: I'm still writing it. The reasons I'm still writing it are complicated. I can pinpoint a few. I can't rush or force the way a story develops for me. It would be insane for me to try because it wouldn't turn out well. I have to go where the story takes me and that's what I've been doing and it simply takes what it takes to write it. I have really high expectations to fulfill: yours and mine. I've said it before: this book has to be better than every other book that came before it in the series. Every. Single. Book. So it's a lot of pressure and emotion and I get in my head a little and I have to step away from it from time to time. I'm trying really hard to be a better writer. It's important to me that when you read my books, you escape this world for the fictional one. When you finally return to this world, I want you to feel like this one is the fictional one and mourn the loss of the other one acutely. In the beginning of my career, it was flattering to be compared to other authors and their work. It was like, "WOW, that's awesome!" But now, my goal is for you to read me and say, "Wow, that was unlike anything I've ever read." I don't know if I'll get there, but I'm going to try. I'm going to keep typing words into my computer, string together sentences and paragraphs, and hopefully create a world to which you can disappear. When I reach the end of the story, I'll tell you. You will be the first ones I tell. I promise. If I miss this "early 2014" deadline, too, then I miss this deadline, too. In a few years, most people won't know or remember or care how long it took me to write Iniquity. They'll only care about whether or not it was any good. I want to show you something. It's not the Bestseller list or the Hot New Releases list, although, I do like those lists, too. It's Amazon's Top Rated list. It's a list based on customer reviews. Because of you and your reviews, Under Different Stars made this list. Thank you, it means the world to me. It says that maybe I did something right. I know that it'll probably be off this list soon because it's really hard to make it and hang out on it for any length of time. But, for a moment on January 7, 2014, you put me on it, and that's amazing. And that's also why I won't rush Iniquity. Anyway, that's my spiel. If you're still with me, then I have something about Iniquity that I want to share with you. Iniquity has so many highs and lows for me already. But I'll share one of the highs with you. It happened a couple of days ago. I was writing a scene and Brennus kept pushing into it and talking when I hadn't thought he would be in it at all, so now he's in it because he insisted. Anyway, after I wrote it, I was getting ready to go to my neighbors' house because I've blown them off so many times they think I hate them, but really it's because I don't feel like I have any time in my life right now to be social. They're really very lovely people, it's just that any time I'm not writing or thinking about writing, or dreaming about writing, I feel guilty. Anyway, not the point, the point is: remember in Indebted when Evie picks up Brennus' weapon in the armory and it sings to her? Well, I never really knew what that song was. It never was like I could really hear it, I just wrote that it made music and went on with the story. So I was getting ready to go out and thinking about Brennus and the battleaxe that makes music and I started hearing the song in my head--the whole song--it's like having an orchestra playing the melody in my mind. And since then, the song has been with me everywhere I go, like a broken record. And now, finally, I think I know what it is and what it means to the story. It's really important, but I can't tell you why because that would ruin it. But here is a portion of the scene where Brennus forced his way in. I hope you like it. It's told in Russell's POV. (This scene hasn't been edited. It is in a raw form and subject to change.) TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE TEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASERTEASE The doors of the library swing open behind me. “Aww, whah’s dis?” Brennus’ smooth voice asks. “’Tis aingeals, Finn.”
“’Tis.” Finn’s voice agrees. “Uckkk,” Brennus makes a rude sound, “and da other.” “Brennus,” I hiss. “Why are ye lettin’ dem have da pretty dark-winged aingeal, da other?” he asks me conversationally, as he walks into my line of sight. He looks at the Power angel holdin’ me hostage by my throat. His eyes shift to Djet and Anya. “Hallo, pretty aingeal,” he says to Anya, “I’ve missed ye.” Her eyes widen as her hands grip Djet’s arm that holds the sharp dagger just below her chin. “What are you doin’ here?” I growl at Brennus. He moves in front of me and bends down to my eye level, studyin’ me. It’s shockin’ to see his black, velvet wings beyond the unbuttoned collar of his stark-white dress shirt. They're almost like an elegant accessory to complete his ensemble of dark, tailored dress pants and expensive shoes. His meticulously well-kempt black hair doesn’t even move as he leans near me. Faerie writin’ scrawls in intricate tattoos over Brennus’ neck. Behind his ear, there's somethin’ I’ve never noticed before; it’s another small, glowin’ tattoo on his not so pale flesh—one that looks like the battleaxe I’d found in the armory back at his castle. “I came here ta retrieve da portrait of me queen dat da Reapers stole from me castle,” he nods toward his brother Finn on the other side of me. Finn demonstratively holds aloft a rolled up canvas; his iridescent green eyes twinkle like this is all very amusin’. “Nasty wee craiturs, dose Reaper aingeals—tink dey can reap everyting, but dat portrait is moin—given ta me in trade by a Fallen one.” “Ahh, who are ya tryin’ to kid? You killed Freddie and kept it.” “I did na say ’twas a good trade for him.” “You must be Brennus,” Djet says behind him. Brennus’ eyes narrow as he straightens to face Djet. “If I must,” Brennus says pleasantly enough, but his anger is recognizable to me. “And ye must be Emil.” Fallen angels move in closer, surroundin’ Djet protectively, while their eyes focus on the back of the room by the doors. Behind me I hear click, click, click, click, click, click...hundreds of Gancanagh fangs engagin’ at once. “How do you know that name?” he asks Brennus. “Ye’re Emil. Yer last lifetime was in Lille, France, was it na? About a century ago,” he states, exudin’ confidence. “And, like a coward, ye enjoyed frightenin’ wee lasses den.” Judgin' by the look on Djet’s face, I should start referrin’ to him as Emil.

I'm not going to read the teaser - I'll wait (and wait and wait) for the book. I am one of the frustrated readers who have been anxiously awaiting "Iniquity" and was a little shocked to see the new book. I will admit that I assumed "Iniquity" hadnt been released because of focus on the new Kricket book. I appreciate the explanation - although you didnt' owe one. I've just barely gotten into the new book and still love the way you write. Your timelines frustrate the heck out of me, but I still (and will always!!) love your work. Thank you for being such a great writer and keeping me so incredibly entertained!

The story takes as long as it takes. I'd be so much more disappointed if you rushed the story just to get it out quickly. Sure I want to read Iniquity like right now lol, but I understand that you can't tell the story until you know the story and I'm so glad that you're taking your time to make sure it's right. I love that you're an author who lets the characters lead you where they may, and that you tell their story.

Your books have consistently blown my expectations out of the water. I think that you should be able to take however much time you need to write with the complexity, depth and precision that you do. So, thank you Amy, for your imagination and dedication! I can't wait to read more from you.

AAAACCKKK!! So great! As much as I love Reed, Brennus holds me too! I've said it before, but just take your time. It will be finished when you know in your heart it is done and not a minute sooner! And you have already created a world that leaves reality behind. The Premonition Series is like nothing I've read before in that sense. I can read it over and over and still feel new things, laugh at Zee ('It IS my birthday') and Buns & Brownie, and suffer with Evie and all her choices. I want nothing less than what you think is perfect for the next part of this 'reality'! {{{HUGS}}} to you for what you've given us!

You never have to explain why it's taking you longer than promised to finish your book. It's yours. A gift to readers. And coming from you, it's always a wonderful gift. Your loyal Premonition readers need to sink their teeth into Under Different Stars - your writing voice is there and equally strong, if not stronger. Keep up the great work. You've made a huge fan who will never, ever give you crap for taking time to make things good. :)

Amy, you ARE an amazing writer and you have written things that I have never read the likes of before. And, no, I'm not just saying that because I'm in lesbians with you (even though I am). I truly loved Under Different Stars and can not express to you or anyone else how much. You have evolved as a writer and it shows in everything that you do. The fact that you have missed "deadlines" and are willing to miss them shows that. We want your best. If we didn't, we wouldn't hang around. Anyone that gives you crap for being & doing your best isn't worthy of you or your talent. Let them go find someone that will throw a story out there to appease the few. There are plenty of those kind out there. You, thankfully, will never be in the category. And if you ever consider it, I will hunt you down and give you a good smack. Cause that's what friends do. Now, no pressure, but get your butt back to writing "my" story. :)

Not the teaser but the part that people are getting mad over something they have NO CONTROL over. These people are called CONTROL freaks. They have to CONTROL everything around them. Even books they read they feel as if they speak their mind and be rude they will get their way. I say BullSH@t!!!!! THIS BOOK IS A BIG DEAL make it a big deal. If it takes two years to Write, then it takes TWO years. Don't let people chastise you or make you feel like a piece of shit because you are not writing at their speed in which they feel like this book needs to be done. They are not your EDITOR they are not your PUBLISHER. They are not YOU. SO....PISS OFF PISSY PEOPLE. SHE WILL BE DONE WHEN SHE'S DONE. That being said...... It feels so good to read this Amy. I was one of those that got a little impatient. Thank you for updating. I love that you are waiting for the story to come to you, my biggest complaint was always communication. I understand that you are busy with your own life and that we, as readers, can't always get what we want when we want it. Just the act of updating us on what is going on is in its own way almost as satisfying as having the book. Knowing that you haven't forgotten about us is great. Even a facebook status would work! So again, thank you for explaining with really we didn't deserve an explanation.

Firstly I was compelled to post on your blog because I was so sorry to hear what seems like bullying from your fans for you next book in the premonition series. I would congratulate you though on putting people straight about it. So whilst it is awful that this has happened (and people should really be ashamed of their behaviour) perhaps consider that this is because of your compelling stories and ability to so successfully immerse the reader.

People who complain or vocalise their annoyance about publishing dates clearly do not have a clue just how time consuming, brain meltingly frustrating and difficult it is to write a story of any calibre let alone one as unbelievable as the Preminition series. The books so far have been amazing and your fans will obviously expect even greater things from the next one, you do right in taking your time until you feel it's the best story you can write. It is lovely that you feel you should address those people disrespectful and clueless enough to complain about it but you shouldn't have to do that, they have no idea the hard work involved. It is because of super talented authors like you that I aspired to be one myself, your an inspiration, as are your stories. Take all the time you need to finish the book, the real fans will wait with excited anticipation as long as it takes!

I LOVE your books!!!! I am a bit upset that iniquity its not finished yet but I hope its not the end because in my head I keep going over many scenarios. Super excited!!!! I read your newest novel "Under different Stars" and I must say its a love hate relationship. I was up for almost 30 hours, I read before bedtime (bad idea) so couldn't go to sleep until I was done and with a toddler at home I don't sleep much during the day. I felt like the story/plot was very similar to the premonition series so it was a bit disappointing yet I must admit Im hooked and cant wait for the next book.

Take your time! We know it'll be WELL worth the wait :) Though we love nothing more than to get lost in your world, it shouldn't be our life breath! People who are rushing you are only asking you to compromise the storyline because of their impatience and selfishness. Thank you for not letting those jerks ruin it for the rest of us :)

Although I can't wait to read Iniquity, I can understand the time and patience it takes for the story to flow out and be written. It's a tough and time consuming process. And yes, each book in the series has gotten better than the previous one but don't overwhelm yourself. Seems like the introduction of some of the new characters in Incendiary will already propel Iniquity to surpass the prior books. Love you work, keep it up and don't let the pressure get to you.

Amy I absolutely adore you! :) You are one of the best authors I have seen and if it takes you five years to finish iniquity then I will wait patiently until you finish because I know if this book is to be better then all the others in the series then it will be the best book I will ever read. I am actually rereading the series right now for probably the third or forth time because I love it so much! There are so many details and emotions that it is easy to reread the story and get lost in it all over again like it's the first time :) For everyone that is talking smack about you....They don't deserve to read your stories then. I have read so so so many books and I have noticed that my absolute favorite series are the ones that have taken the longest to release, not the ones that release 4 books in the same year :/ it's hard to wait I will admit but so worth it in the end. I love your series and I am actually getting ready to buy the others book you talked about too :) I can't wait to read what you have in store for my fantasy family lol but I will wait patiently until you are finished :D

Just finished Under Different Stars and OH MY GOSH! It was amazing. I normally stay away from those kind of book because I am not one to like the whole alien thing but wow! I couldn't put the book down and finished it in less then 12 hours and that's while putting it down several times :) (hubby was getting jealous) You are absolutely amazing and now you have me jittery for two more books lol. I can't wait to see what happens next for krickett and (sigh) Trey :D watch out Reed! You just may have some good competition!

Take your time... I am so happy that Brownie found love and that it is Preben. Buns and Zee need to become each others Aspire. :) I love Brennus so much it hurts BUT I love Evie with Reed more. I want to cry because I feel like she is giving pieces of herself away and she is really meant to be with Reed. I love that she brings out the good in Brennus though, and that she has an emotional connection to Finn and Molly too. I really hope Tau opens his eyes and sees that she is his daughter and that takes rank over her everything else. He can't keep trying to force her to be a soldier. As for Xavier.... My heart breaks a little for that cocky SOB. I can't wait for her memory to completely restore so everyone can see that she still loved REED. But I kinda hope that Xavier meets someone that gives him butterflies too. He deserves it. Love Phadeus and so happy for Russell and Anya!!!!! Yay! I read all four books in like 5 days. I think my kids thought I was in a trance.

Ok Amy, so I have spent the last several months furious with you over Iniquity not being finished yet. While I have been waiting I started another series and finished it yesterday. Though I still can not wait for iniquity to be finished I appreciate that you are taking your time to make sure the story falls into the right places. The last book in the series I just finished reading was all over the place and it seemed like the author didn't take time for a good ending. Now I feel quite foolish for being mad that iniquity isn't finished. Haha well thats what happens when you are so wrapped up in a great book. I think you are a very talented writer and cannot wait to see more of your work. I love Reed and hopes he ends up with Evie. I saw your last post on facebook and I think a very unmanly animal would be a rabbit. Love this series!

I just started the premonition series on audible. I love it. It does remind me of other books in some ways but totally different in others. This takes me "away" into a different world for an hour or many. Thank you for work. I will be getting any and all books that go to this series. I can wait.

I have to say, I've been biting my nails waiting for Iniquity to come out. After reading the most recent update about the teasing behind the missed release dates....it is worth the wait. You've been hoping your reader is lost in this amazing love filled and suspensful world but you succeeded in the first sentence of the first book. Out of all the stories I have read this has been the most memorable to me. You get to know and love every character and every scene of every book no matter what's going on. There have been books ive read where I skim paragraphs beacause you already know where its leading. BORING. I can safely say, that had not happened so far and from the teasers above I can already tell it wont happen in the next. You have accomplished what you are currently trying to achieve. Thank you for an amazing story and I cant wait to read what else you have up your sleeve.

is this the last book in the series? And i hope Reed is the angel that holds her heart in the end, if not it would be a waste to me my heart will break.

I was actually glad that you published "Under Different Stars." I'm a fan of your writing and creativity; so anything you release is a gift! Can't wait for sequels from both series!! I also appreciate your blog posts! Your creative process is so fascinating to read about. Perhaps you can write a book about it at some point ;) thank you!!

Haters gonna hate. LOL. I'm not reading the scene because I don't want to spoil myself. Just wanted to say: take your time. I'd rather have a rockin' story than have it out right now. You keep doing what you are doing!

I am among the many that are eagerly awaiting the release of Iniquity. I’m sure that it’s difficult to be creative when under pressure, but it ain’t easy being a rock star Of course I’ll wait as long as it takes because the series is just that good. However, I have to say that when you’ve been counting down the days to the release date, and months later there’s still no book, that’s a little frustrating. Simply because I just can’t understand how this awesome series could become “stale”. I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with working on both novels at the same time, it just seems like the excitement of the Kricket series has nudged our much loved Premonition series to the back. After pouting for a bit I read Under the Stars and thought that it was great (as I knew it would be), and will definitely read book 2 as soon as I finish Iniquity. Look at it this way, many authors just have fans while you have a Premonition mob ;) ***Team Reed or Brennus
